History
On July 4, 1880, a covered wagon drawn by a weary team of horses was making its way slowly up Rock Creek Canyon.  There was no road, only trails made by horsemen and the running gears of a few wagons going up to haul wood from the canyon.

The occupants of the wagon, Edwin and Phoebe Crockett and their three small sons, were looking for a place to camp for the night.  They had left Grouse Creek, Utah, several days before.  The team was tired and night was coming on, they must find a place to camp for the night.

They had passed two ranches when they saw a stream near the road, there was plenty of grass for the horses and the two cows following the wagon.  Brush for firewood was plentiful, so they decided to stop, it seemed like a good place for a much needed rest.  Soon they had a cheerful fire going and supper was ready.

Over 125 years have passed since the first night the Crocketts stayed in Rock Creek.  The title to the first 160 acres of the property was signed over to Edwin by President Benjamin Harrison in 1889 as part of the Homestead Act.  The ranch is managed today by fourth generation David W. Crockett.  The creek has changed its course through the ranch for decades but the land remains largely the same it did when Edwin first arrived.
